I have horribly weird, sometimes disturbing dreams. Coupled with insomnia, that makes for some really interesting sleep patterns.

well, it depends upon the hearing loss and its cause. you can get a cochlear implant (an electronic cochlea) which will restore hearing in a certain percentage of people with hereditary deafness. it's certain types of deafness and we're dealing with people who have never been able to hear.

my deafness was caused by severe ear infections as a baby, which lead to a buildup of fluids blocking the inner ear and preventing the travel of vibrations from the eardrum to the cochlea. so i had tubes in my ears for like 3 months while everything came out (incidentally, it's one of my earliest memories). after that, my hearing came back 100%.

(my mom works with the deaf as an interpreter, teacher, and social services advocate for like 30 years, so that's how i know all this stuff. i had a deaf babysitter and could sign before i could talk, but now i barely remember any of it.)

I actually had tubes also. I had real problems hearing as a kid. Lots of ear infections. My left ear is still bad. I should get that checked out again. But my right ear is normal.

I used to talk kind of weirdly. Possibly due to not hearing things right. But it's pretty much gone now. Even on recordings from highschool, I sound half retarded.

Ooh. I have lots of weird doublejointedness relating to ehlers-danlos syndrome. It causes a lot of pain and weird problems (especially because I don't get exercise in the winter), but at least I can do cool tricks with my fingers...

I talked like a New Yorker because my babysitter was from NYC.
My elementary school had some thing with the university here and so we got speech therapy from the students there.
Yayyyy, speech therapy for four years.

Well I guess it does when you're in the Midwest.
I think it was more the fact that I was past the age where the 'r' sound should be developed and I was still dropping them and/or substituting them with 'w'.
