I love zombies. But I love any kind of gruesome horror movie that makes good use of practical effects. I loved the new Dawn of the Dead, and I'm glad it wasn't a remake of the original. I hear the same people are doing a prequel to John Carpenter's The Thing! If they don't fall into the CGI trap, this could end in awesome.

The black and white Night of the Living dead is one of my fav's. It's funny how the racial message at the end is supposedly entirely unintentional :p

No doubt. CGI should be used to enhance certain scenes and keep stuntmen out of unnecessary danger, not be the entire basis of a movie.

My friend and I have a running joke of George Lucas remastering his home videos.

"It was an indoor wedding, but I thought it it would look better outside, so we digitally replaced the walls and roof of the church with clouds and trees. I also thought I should have had a beard, so we created a 3-d model of my current beard, and put that in there. Her father had to miss the ceremony, so we put him back in using a 3-d model, motion captured from Andy Sirkus."

"I had this video of my son's first steps. But I thought it would look better if I replaced my son with an Ewok's first steps..."

Hell yes. You should check out the late seventies/ early eighties Italian ones. Zombi 2 (one of Fulci's only tolerable movies) and Doctor Butcher MD (Medical Deviate).

Event Horizon makes me think of how well they could have done a Doom movie.
