I haven't watched any lately. But I was probably one of the biggest anime nerds in highschool. People'd flock to my house to watch my now-somewhat-degraded tapes of Akira, Ninja Scroll, and Ghost in the Shell on a daily basis. I'd stay up late to watch anime movies on the cartoon network and pay $40 for a VHS tape.

That's a yay, btw.

I like some stuff, but I was always too poor to really get into it. I had a friend in middle and high school who was loaded, so I would just borrow her stuff. Cowboy Bebop and Miyazaki's stuff were the only ones I ever spent money on. So yay.

I used to have a shirt that said ANIME: crack is cheaper.

I was never a huge nerd about it, I just thought it was kind of cool, it was on the same level for me as watching any other kind of movie or television show. I never got too carried away.

Appleseed is decent,
action wise its sweet,
but they put a lot of CG in it, which i hate a lot since its sapposed to be animated not computerized.

i thought gungrave was great, it had a really good drama plot to it, thats without mentioning the amazing violence.
tree of palm is basically a different version and world of akira, involving an assassin's restless ghost and a boy made of wood, but he's no Pinocchio sissy, the story's hard to describe but the whole world that was drawn for it, has amazing imagination and weirdness to it.

samurai champloo was great, hip hop and fuedal japan, and ridiculous ego's
and full metal panic [fumoffu] is just funny. ridiculous main character.

I caught some episodes of Full Metal Panic streaming on Winamp Shoutcast TV. I'll say I approve. It blends highschool comedy with 'serious' military sf... in a way that's pretty good at showing the contrast between the two types of situations involved...

the plot of blood of the last vampire was kinda hard to pick up on but its about (i think) the last vampire girl, and this war between her and the werewolves. so she works for the government n' the government knows about the war and they want to get rid of all the werewolve since they're just human haters, and i assume the vampires made a pact with the humans or somethin' and i think....the movie picks up where theres the last few werewolve and how she kills em all,

half of that was assumption though, that movie was mainly an ok slasher film.

I say Yay, Taste varies a lot, really from Actiony like Darker Than Black, and such, to like Ouran High School Host club, but a really good Anime is Death Note I recommend it to even people who don't like Anime, really good story that draws you in.

I hated:
Jin-ro. (Too depressing.)
Fist of the North Star. (Incoherent plot.)

I liked:
Akira
GITS (+SAC)
Ninja Scroll
Almost everything by Miazaki.
Perfect Blue is supposed to be good, but I have yet to see it.
Vampire Hunter D was the shizzzz when i was in HS, but upon re-viewing, it doesn't really hold up.
Wolf Rain was good for a while, (despite a really crappy, annoying theme song.) but season 2 started to get too convoluted. (Changed writers, I suspect.)

i was coerced into watching these in middle school

my impression is that even those not marketed as porn function as porn

terse rejoinder man

it's funny the excuses anime people make for the gratuitous stag elements of their "classics"

"of course she has to get naked to wear an invisibility suite. obviously an android cop must have immense breasts and working genitals."
"they have to fuck to get the poison out that is a basic principle of biology plus there is symbolism"

yea but thats a vast generalization.
and its wrong. none of the titles dropped itt have pointless sex scenes. and even if they do, the ratio's about on par with any other media form.
maybe ur thinking of hentia?

maybe modern animes don’t have boobs ploppin’ out for no reason
the scores of ones my middleschool friends watched did, and i’m pretty sure those were not ostensive hentai
but i have no problem admitting my deep ignorance of this subject

the pornogrification of our media culture make what you say about ratios probably true

in any event, i'm not here to judge!

I've been getting sucked in to Gurren Lagann, which Sci Fi has been playing on Monday nights.

It's pretty good. VERY stylized and stereotypically Anime, but interesting to watch. I think the last episode I saw was making fun of Planet of the Apes.

Has anyone seen: Paranoia Agent...??
I just started it yesterday[[and finished it yesterday]] and it'ss pretty cool... It gives off the whole "Death Note Mysterious" feel, but its also kinda weird at the same time XDD amkes you think.... though the animations plain... just kinda blah compared to Air , or Kanon.... [[but then again the animator of those shows are incredable XD]]
