There are plenty of amazing people on MOC I figured!
Ummm my basic question being was it worth it that you did/didn't go?
O_O?
Is it really as important as people say it is?????
and say you're prom is innn Arpil (Possibly may?) When do you ask a person to go with you?!?!
My friend has just made me very nervous about this and I need some helpful advice?
(or just mockery of high school/prom in general)

Prom is fun if you're going with someone you genuinely enjoy being around. I'd say it's worth it, if only to say you went.

It was worth it.

I didn't go to Highschool, I was taking College classes at the time, so I went to somebody else's prom.

But you should go.

Go ahead and start asking friends ASAP. Or you can just say "F it" and go "stag" with your friends.

Well I would say that it is not that important, granted I did not go to any of my proms including senior year. I hated the high school that I was at for junior and senior year, so I decided that I didn't need to go.

if you don't go, you'll always wonder what you missed. unless you have something else that's killer planned for that night, you should def. go

i had an alright time both times i went. i had a lot of good friends and went with them.

funny side note, i was pretty poor, so i couldn't afford the limo with everyone else. i had a real POS car. 1974 plymouth duster. no ac, no seatbelts, lots of rust though. so i borrowed the nicest car i could get my hands on, my older brother's 87 grand am. (not trans am. grand am) long story short, the night almost ended (but was saved by my awesome neighbor with a rescue vehicle) before dinner with me standing on the side of the road in a tuxedo screaming obscenities while the radiator spilled onto the street.
fun times.

It's worth it. I wasn't sure about going either but I'm glad I did.
Although one year I went by myself and the second time with a date and I thought it was a lot more fun just going with a group of friends.

Oh, and I asked my date around this time. Don't really worry about asking too soon, because it'd really suck to wait too long and have them go with someone else.

I didn't go and never had any regrets about it.

But I was a rebel and liked to start my own traditions... for both junior prom and senior prom, i convinced some of my friends to go to a karaoke bar instead.

I think you should go though, I mean, what do you have to lose? If it's lame, you can always leave early with some friends and start a party somewhere else.

I enjoyed my prom. didnt do anything crazy/stupid either. I regret having not gone to more events in high school, I was a late bloomer in the social dept. plus-getting all dressed up is awesome and you never get to do that when you become an adult(well, its unlikely save for your wedding).

and I would ask someone as soon as you know who you want. dont wait-someone else could snatch them and you should start planning now as far as costs go-transportation, if youll stay overnight with friends, etc

if you have friends to hang out with and don't abhor dress clothes or the moronic plague that is your school, there's no reason not to go. but it never hurts to have a possible back up plan in case the whole thing sucks.

Word. Hell, you can always just make an appearance, and if it sucks have a little afterparty with your friends.

I used to really enjoy dressing up, and wore my own suit to prom. It's sad how many teenagers don't own suits. Anyway, if nothing else it's a great excuse to buy some formal wear, and get yer hair did!

Why would such fellows be defending a clearly non-fuctioningly retarded underaged girl?

Ohhhhh, right.

Because they're incredibly creepy.

that`s right you know i`m clearly defending an underaged girl because i`m creepy. as opposed to flaming said person on the internet because i`m a douche

sounds like you're set....although i don't think missing prom is something that you'll regret/question for the rest of your life. i didn't go and the only regret i have is that i did actually go to high school.

I went and it was fun. I went with a really good friend of mine whose school didn't have a prom. We ended up going to a comedy club. Though junior prom we went to play laser tag afterwards and get ice cream which was more fun. The only thing that I hated about the whole prom situation was getting a limo and making everyone pay on time.

That's funny, because I often regret not having gone to Highschool.

The social interaction you learn in College really doesn't help you at all with 95% of the population.

But I hated high school with a fiery passion.

However if you do go, I say pick a good friend and not someone you'd be potentially interested in. I've heard a lot of horror stories.

lol! does this happen at every prom? i remember that at mine :)

good times.

oh yeah and....i didnt go to my junior prom becuase i was an idiot but i really didnt miss out on anything. i did go to my senior prom though with a bunch of friends. no date = no pressure and you can dance with whoever you want. i wish i could say i had an awesome time but my high school was pretty small. i was friends with more underclassmen than all the boring people in my class so prom sucked ass because there was barely anyone there and the people who were there, i hated.

homecoming was way more fun for me at the time.

I went to mine. I had stupid dress drama, my date had a panic attack in the men's bathroom for anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour (I wasn't really paying attention), and some of my close friends had a shitty time (illness, dates hooking up with other people, etc.). If I had the chance to decide again, I probably wouldn't, but only if I could find something better to do so I wouldn't feel like an asshole. I doubt yours will go down like that, however, and if you think you will have fun you should go.

i hated high school up until the last two months or so of senior year, so prom was never high on my list of things to do, but i went and had a great time. ignored the guys who had ties on their heads and hung out with my friends and my date. it was a good night, but that is partially because my prom was in downtown chicago.

really? because now that i'm in college i spend an inordinate amount of time getting hit on by old men with bad dental hygiene or guys who tend to go on inane rants about pistol whipping a bitch aka 95% of the male population in my general proximity.

go to your prom.
make your own dress.
wear comfy shoes.
take that friend of your's that you've wanted as more than a friend for a while.
wear a garter belt.
in the garter, keep a flask...filled with someone delicious.
say hello to your friends.
say hello to your enemies.
say hello to your teachers.
maybe dance a song or two.
then leave about 30 minutes after you've arrived.
then go home & have a party with your friends who've done the same.

that's what i did & it was a lot of fun.

I should also mention that my senior prom was on a boat, which made escape near impossible.
That was a big factor in my overall decision.

I might've gone otherwise.
Might've.
