I have been on this site for a total of one day!
Scratch that. Not even 12 hours.
And I already discovered that I can be relatively obnoxious and people won't care too much.

Whaaaaattt a forum.

From previous experience, I know that many will not read past the title of this thread, and almost no one will read beyond this point.
STILL, this is the real part of my thread.

I once saw a girl on a forum make a post that criticized modern art.
She and all the people who replied tried to sound like they knew a shitload about art, but they sounded like they were regurgitating previous notions taught to them by other people.

They namedropped people like this:
ANDY WARHOL
MONET
DAVE BROMLEY (excuse me? He's usually accredited to DAVID, not DAVE. You sure you know about him?)
EDVARD MUNCH

so. . . like, here's my real topic of discussion:

Does name dropping incredibly famous artists make you sound smart?
Couldn't they have talked about lesser known people?
Come on. If you're going to have your nose stuck up in the air about the art world, at least rub it in by listing obscure names.

I, personally, am not very knowledgable about the art world, though I might have some knowledge that's slightly above average.
Still, I would not have participated in a conversation like this.
I feel like this chick's hatred towards Warhol was more on the fact that he's "cool" and "popular", and being the artsy rebel she is, she just had to dislike him based on the fact that she's stepping out of the norm. Do you know what I mean? It's like people who start to hate bands because they start to go mainstream. Their message hasn't changed, it's just that more people like 'em.

arugable, arguable, arguable, I know.
your thoughts?

Despite the fact that I have a real discussion in the thread, you ignored it an posted an image pegging me as a spammer.
So I don't think you read my entire thread.
Which was exactly my point.

You are replying to a discussion on art.
If you don't like art you should either:

A.) Not reply to the thread.

B.) Provide a reply to the thread that shares your dislike for art, preferably a well thought out, intelligent post.

You did neither.
You posted an image that had nothing to do with the discussion.

Have you ever offended a Jewish person with that image?

I don't understand why you are going out of your way to be a douchebag.

Anyways, I wouldn't have replied, but I'm really asking you a serious question.
Have you ever offended a Jewish person with that image? Doesn't have to be someone Jewish, even. Have you ever offended anyone with it?

Based on your previous actions, there is no possible way I can believe that's an ideal you hold.
Also, I am Jewish, and very offend by your Hitler image.

ResidentGenius - A girl from a message forum. Actually, I have heard many people insult Warhol, but it has always been the same type of people. I'm only generalizing because most of these people consider themselves artists, yet can't hold a conversation about art that doesn't involve famous people. If you so much as mention someone a little more obscure-- or even someone who isn't a painter (a sculptor, a conceptual artist perhaps?) they become flabbergasted and dismiss that artist's work.

Also, a personal attack on my character isn't going to help your argument. I know I'm not "cool" or "popular," and I'm not claiming to be.

But apparently I'm at fault for trying to defend myself and continue to make discussion.

Right.
While I admit that this thread I wanted to make serious discussion, my original post on another thread contained a lot of sarcasm
and wasn't meant to be taken entirely seriously. All it got me was these two users insulting me the entire time, following me to completely unrelated threads, and attacking me on there as well.

Not exactly what I was talking about, but it's cool.

I agree with the Warhol statement, but I feel like the issue has strengthened due to Warhol's sudden enhanced popularity. It seems like his work is being embedded on more youthful, commercial objects. (I've seen t-shirts, bags, notebooks, etc. popping up in stores now days.) It's making him resurface as a cultural icon for today's time period instead of just in the 60s/70s/early 80s. Because he's becoming mainstream again, it's not cool to dislike his work.

it's okay to dislike his work, because that's opinion. I can also go out on
bigger limb here and say that currently we are rehashing american art
due in large part to the staleness of contemporary art in the west. China
is really the only relevant place in terms of thought provoking and interesting
work. that's just my opinion though, so it's validity is both complete and also
could mean absolutely nothing to you.

No, it's totally fine to dislike his work. I just feel that some people do it simply because they feel they're supposed to, not because they've formed their own opinions.

I'm pretty unfamiliar with contemporary Chinese art, but I'm still intrigued by the Western world. The art that I've been drawn to lately involves installations and more conceptual pieces. Also I have a love for experimental animation, but I don't explore it much and a lot of people don't consider that serious attempts at art anyways.
