to try and prevent creepo dudes like myself from hitting on them.

Little do they know, I DON'T CARE IF THEY ARE ENGAGED OR MARRIED!! I'M STILL GONNA HIT ON THEM!!

I wear one, not because I am a child bride or anything, but because I have certain rules I make up and then have to follow. If I'm not "balanced" correctly, I feel wrong. Maybe they just do because if most people are right-handed, if it's on the left, there's a less chance of the ring getting damaged if it's on the weaker, less-used hand.

i'm left handed and therefore more inclined to put rings on my left hand, and on the finger that a ring feels most comfortable on.
i have stolen-borrowed-in that acceptable kind of way a ring from a guy i'm seeing, and i wear it on the left ring finger. its one of those three rings in one, so fun to play with.

to be honest, a lot of girls seem to wear them in order to seem mysterious in some way.
Also, if you wear rings regularly, it's really easy to just forget about it a little,
you want to wear two rings,
or sometimes rings fit differently on different hands, and it fits better on a ring finger...

but then i have a friend who's fiancé died.
so she's not married, but she still wears the ring.

I asked my gf this question and her response was:
"I used to wear one on my left, but that was only because I was going out with that guy that I figured we were basically engaged to anyway. Now that I'm not, my mom yelled at me to stop wearing a ring on my left, so never do anymore"

..when i was learning to read hands and palms i had a book that said that wearing a ring on that finger [even absent-mindedly] can represent a significant other

Well, that book needs to be edited.

Even gayer:

Women who wear claddagh rings on their left ring finger when they're not married or engaged, and are not Irish.

You people are putting waaaayyyyyyy too much thought into this.

I have one ring, an antique cameo ring, and I wear it on my left ring finger because that's just where it fits and thats where I like it. IT doesn't represent anything for me, conscious or unconscious. I don't wear it to draw attention or ward it off.

I don't know why this would bother anyone.

I have 2 rings, both of which I wear on my middle fingers.. I guess that could represent "fuck off".

You could use a Ringpop to plug a hole.

It's my "don't holla at me ring".
I work at a mall that also has a recruiters' office in it...so all of these Marines come down and try to hit on me...it usually stops them.

I'm sorry, this thread about rings worn on the finger, not in the nose.

Too bad I can't wear it out at work. It would proably scare them off faster.

I don't get people who wear rings. It's so uncomfortable and annoying. If I ever get married, it'll be tattooed on so it'll REALLY be forever, or until I decide to laser it off.

my bf bought me an eternity ring that i love, and it fits best on my left ring finger. whenever i wear it to work i get hit on constantly. so, i make it a point to not wear it. and problem solved.

Can't a ring simply be a ring?

I never assume there's any meaning behind jewelry unless the person tells me there is.

To me, it's just shit that looks nice :)
