Drive out to Massachusetts tonight, with about just enough $$ to get out there to go on an 8 day retreat with one of my... teachers? This would also entail (hopefully) seeing a bunch of my east coast friends, friends from the midwest who made the trek out there already and people I met in South America a couple months ago. I also just got back from Portland last night and am a bit spent. My job could probably manage without me and I'd most likely be taken care of while out there...

WHERE DID YOU END UP CAMPING ON THE OREGON COAST? AND DID YOU GO TO POWELL'S BOOKS WHILE YOU WERE IN PDX?

Teacher as in Buddhist teacher- a Tibetan Rinpoche, doing a retreat with a couple hundred other students of his in the middle of nowhere, MA.

Camped at Oswald state... forest? park? It was a walk in campground nestled in the woods just before the beach. Went to the big Powell's on... 10th? and ran into my friend who works there, that I couldn't get a hold of before then, so that was cool. Saw a movie at the Hollywood, stayed in SE mostly (asides from a major splurge on a hotel downtown w/indoor pool our last night), bought a bunch of records and freaked out at the Saturday market (burning meat, drummers and wild junkie/traveler kids altogether kind of spook me).

i live on burnside down the street from powell's. that place is pretty epic. the hollywood theater is a good time. when i was kid we used to go see double features for a $1.25. i think i saw ghostbusters there when it first came out.

did you run into elvis at the saturday market?
