no dude, records a dumb you are listening to 60 (modern stylus designs, etc, not phonograph which has been around much longer) year old technology that suffers HUGE inadequacies in frequency and sound quality. Its silly and has only persisted because of kitsch and curmudgeonly people who want to be more down than the "rest of the lemmings"

dum 'n' outdated!

you probably still get your tv over the antenna

dont really watch anything but movies, but presumptions and technology aside , the ratio of vinyl you've purchased recently to posts in this thread is not proportional

if you cannot hear a difference between the sound of vinyl and a sound from a digital source, it makes sense that you wouldn't understand why people collect vinyl

oh i can hear it because it cuts off about 1/4 of the audible spectrum. although some people will claim the response is 7hz - 25k this is never put into use because the time limitations of the record would limit you to about one minute per side n a 12 to produce true sounds, so the effective freq range on most pressings 400hz-16k which is a substantial loss in frequency....aka shitty

there are also limitations in the amplitude available due the nature of the groove....

i could go all day with the inadequecies - I can also emulate that crappy sound by manipulating my 60 band digital eq and if i realllllllly wanted to hear noise i could plug in a white noise generator, and flip my receiver into monaural.

i just think it is a dumb attempt to hold on to some pseudo-authenticity

you can have your ZING back :D

i like the idea of keeping computers out of the equation,.
record your record to a tape deck or 1/4" inch tape, then master it and press it onto vinyl.
nix the book analogy, its like churning butter for music. call me fucking amish

Ooh, a few days ago I bought a Hungarian record of George Harrison at the coolest Vinyl store I've ever been to. I wouldn't have suspected I would find such a kickass place in Budapest.
