I grew up saying "pop". Everyone around here does. Then I went to college and started hanging out with kids from philly. I picked up "soda" somehow.
I think it sounds better.

Lol all of you are so HOSTILE with your beverage monikers!

I grew up calling it Pop, because in Michigan, most people call it Pop... There is a rumor the phrase originated in D-town because of the creators of "Faygo Pop"... They heard a popping noise when they opened the cans/bottles of their product... but any soda does that, so i'm not sure that's true.

I rotate between soda and pop, but ever since i moved to nyc, I got used to calling it soda.

Also, Coke people:

I say Soda, but I generically refer to any cola as "Coke." If I'm at a restaurant, and I'm drinking soda, I order Coke. I don't care if the menu says Pepsi. They can go ahead and figure it out.

legally, they're supposed to tell you it isn't coke. apparently it's a big deal. like they're poisoning you or something...
