I've been looking and there really isn't anything cheap :( Damn you people and your high rental rates! Credit crunch my bum!
Also, I want to stay in an apartment that is about $35,000 a month rental :(
try going through Kinvara Realty - the buildings they own are nice (they own a few pubs too) and they are irish friendly - if the name didn't give that away.
the only way you are going to get "cheap" is if you have a bunch of flatmates and you split the rent. i lived in this building (above an authentic irish bar) for a number of years with two roommates. we paid $500 USD each.
unless absolutely forced, i will never live in an apartment again. aaaand after years of building my credit it is finally good enough to get a good rate on a mortgage so pretty soon when we decide where we want to end up for an extended period of time i will buy my first house. SO EXCITED.
oh, and i mostly don't want to live in an apartment because the dogs are way too big and the kiddo needs a yard as well to explore/put in a "clubhouse"/play without me having to drive to a park and stand watch like an eagle.
it's pretty standard for boston. just look outside of downtown. most irish friendly is South Boston and Brighton. if you just want cheap + nightlife go to Allston. it's college kid / punk central. (and right next to brighton)
I have been looking at Allston quite a lot actually. It seems nice.
And I have a Northern Irish accent, which means I'm more understandable than most Irish. People can actually make out what I'm saying.
