eyeliner didn't happen to music in the last few years.
evidence:

see also: david bowie, freddie mercury, robert smith, etc. etc.

as for american idiot - that album didn't suck. i mean, if you aren't a green day fan, then i guess it wasn't your cup of tea. if you are a green day fan you can appreciate that this was the first album in a long time that billie joe actually felt passionately about the material. sure, it wasn't the most political (not for lack of trying) but it was pretty good. at least, in my opinion.

my top ten list (in no order):
1) deedee, joey, and johnny ramone died. (soft spot for the ramones, excuse me.)
2) piebald broke up.
3) paris hilton released a record.
4) cbgb's closed (the death of hilly followed.)
5) alkaline trio appeared on the hills.
6) against me! signed to a major label. and sucked.
7) george harrison died.
8) DRM & the millennium copyright laws.
9) death of elliott smith
10) ashley simpson &pete wentz spawned (a monster).

PERSONAL ISSUES I HAVE BEEN HAVING—
1) Vampire Weekend. why wouldn't I just listen to Paul Simon's Graceland instead?
2) Against Me! backlash. sure, it's weird they went major, but at the same time the record
is a solid pop outing that has one monster of a track in "The Ocean".
3) fans of Alkaline Trio forgiving, what, like, 3-4 bad albums in a row? everyone was all
on the tip about them playing all of Goddammit thinking this some how redeemed them.
4) the criminal lack of interest in Channels. c'mon! yer sleeping on http://J.ROBBINS!
5) Jade Tree seemingly closing up shop. I mean, Cloak/Dagger was awesome and the latest
Paint It Black was amazing...why so few records now?
6) Max Bemis writing fans songs for money. just...so weird.
7) Ratatat. I'd rather listen to the Dismemberment Plan. (think about it)
8) gas prices being so high that bands couldn't tour this summer.

kind of. i can't really say i'm a fan of rap rock.
but i'm talking scene kids with jet black hair rapping about pussy.
it just doesent quite mix.

maybe it's just a mix of styles that irks you. sort of like a juxtaposition thing?
it's like a hybrid of two gross trends! because "scene kids" aren't really a "genre".

as for rap &rock together, i'm not a fan either. but that aerosmith &run dmc version of "walk this way" was pretty cool.
