Instead of talking about moral team leadership and people skills.

Everyone wants free health insurance but no one wants higher taxes?

No one wants to tax the rich who pay less taxes then you or I do.

Two out of every three United States corporations paid no federal income taxes from 1998 through 2005, according to a report released Tuesday by the Government Accountability Office, the investigative arm of Congress.

The study, which is likely to add to a growing debate among politicians and policy experts over the contribution of businesses to Treasury coffers, did not identify the corporations or analyze why they had paid no taxes. It also did not say whether they had been operating properly within the tax code or illegally evading it.

The study covers 1.3 million corporations of all sizes, most of them small, with a collective $2.5 trillion in sales. It includes foreign corporations that do business in the United States.

Among foreign corporations, a slightly higher percentage, 68 percent, did not pay taxes during the period covered — compared with 66 percent for United States corporations. Even with these numbers, corporate tax receipts have risen sharply as a percentage of federal revenue in recent years.

Pretty much sums it all up. Just replace "Free Health Insurance" with your choice of Government programs.

back to health insurance
there are a lot of cases where women can't afford to have a baby because they don't have insurance, therefore they feel they are not fully prepared to have and raise a baby
abortions are cheaper than deliving a baby

does anyone actually think that corporations will pay big taxes out of the kindness of their heart? higher taxes on corporations will simply cause them to raise prices, thus keeping their profits safe from harm. make a rule about that? oh, they'll just lay off a few thousand workers. perfect.

also, the http://U.S. is second only to Latvia in infant mortality rates of "developed" nations. We strap momma down on her back so she can't move and help her body get the process going (this was NEVER done until Louis XIV decided he wanted a better view of the baby coming out and it became the childbirth version of Queen Victoria's white wedding dress), induce early (to suit dr's schedule), dose up the pitocin (which doesn't cause the body to release oxytonin, thus causing increased pain levels) which is responsible for the rupturing of many a woman's uterus (not good), epidurals (which can seriously eff with baby, thus making it necessary to screw a monitor into baby's skull) only to have one of our many (over 30%...) c-sections and then cut the cord while up to 60% of baby's blood is still in the placenta, whisk him away and poke, prod, inject and document, before we give mom a case free formula that is known to cause higher rates of childhood leukemia, obesity, diabetes, asthma and ear infections, not to mention the bottles that we now know are carcinogenic (and no information or resources for breastfeeding). Then we slap baby in a room on the other side of the house in a bag of its own shit with a videotape of "baby einstein" and a bottle of sugar water and soy isoflavones and sit back, smoke a cigarette, and don't understand why it dies of SIDS. we've just forgotten that the hospital system was never actually super great to begin with.

i'm actually not in the whole "oh, just listen to your body, it knows how to have a baby" camp. i've never had a baby. childbirth can be obviously be incredibly difficult, painful, scary, dangerous; however, this whole system of creating cycles of problems (all of which seem to go back to making money for the healthcare industry) is just kind of sick to me.

In the state of New Hampshire, all liquor stores are run by the state. You can buy wine, beer, and malt liquor at convenience stores and supermarkets, but nothing harder. I think the entire nation should do that with both alcohol and cigarettes, and the proceeds should go to health care. At the very least the smokers and alcoholics will be pitching in to their eventual cancer and cirrhosis treatments. Also, I think those who wish death rather than chemotherapy should have that option.
I think all of our vices should be socialized. Cigarettes, Alcohol, Marijuana, Pornography, Gambling, Prostitution, etc. Decriminalize all which are illegal, and socially regulate it. Government whorehouses casinos, liquor stores and smoke shops with discharged soldiers providing security and running the registers so they have guaranteed employment for life as a benefit of their service. Wage caps for corporate executives adjustable by how much they contribute to disease research, college funds and hunger initiatives. Throw even more taxes on gasoline, tax religious organizations, build low-income housing in abandoned military bases, all kinds of other crap.
I'm sure my math is way off with the whole revenue vs benefit thing, but I'm sure a lot of it is doable. I know legalized and government-run prostitution and marijuana alone could erase the national defecit.

i mean, look at what happened during and after prohibition. it's smart on the government's side - instead of black market making millions, you get it in crazy taxes! it's actually kind of brilliant.

I don't think John McCain is going to do much to reform health care, at all.
