ssly - there comes a time in everyone's life to grow up, asya, unfortunately in this country it doesn't seem to happen for most people until they are in their thirties. Do you think I felt like going to school fulltime and working more than fulltime so I could pay for college? not really but I did. Because I took responsibility for my life and realized that life is FULL of things I don't FEEL LIKE doing, but there's not much I can really do about that now is there? GO TO WORK.

/rant about personal responsibility....

Everyone on moc knows how much of a lazy whiny bitch I am when it comes to maintaining employment, and even I think this is lame. I went into work after 2 hours of sleep and the most traumatic night of my life last Tuesday. I hope you're really enjoying your nap.

the only time i called out sick within the first 3 months (the important months) was after our christmas break from work i had an intense fever for like 5 times. but i was legitimately sick, not just "tired".

do you work retail? if you do, then fuck you, it's just playing with a register all day.

i guess i can afford missing one day, although the money would help.
nobody supports me, i support myself.

i've been pretty good on the UTI's lately, actually.
but this morning i felt like that weird feeling that you feel, so i used it as an excuse.

i feel really bad, but i was VERY tired. plus we didn't do laundry so i had nothing to wear.

Bleh, we've all blown off work for dumbass reasons before, being tired is a lot more noble than bailing on work because you're hung over or because you're mad at your significant other or there's a sale at <insert wherever you retards buy your stupid hipster clothes here> So, yes you may get fired, but no nobody really gives a shit.

in the navy if i blew off work, i would have gotten in...beyond trouble. sick or not, unless you were in the emergency room, you showed up.

my professional job if i wanted a day off i took a day of leave. you had to earn leave to take it though, even if you are legit. sick...it was a full time 40 hours a week contractor job with the government. if i just did not show up, i probably would have been put under review and then probably fired. if you did not have leave and you got sick, you went in the hole. then every time you earned leave, it went towards working your way out of the hole, which means if you take too much leave then have fun working christmas eve and the day after thanksgiving and whatnot.

my last job at a bookstore (i consider it a fluff job, not a *real* job) i called in on my very very last day and had never missed a day before that.

i mean really, what are you doing as a legal secretary that you would be too tired for? talking on the phone, typing up documents and filing paperwork? you should really save the missing work for days you actually need it, when you really do get a UTI if you get them often. you should re-think your work ethics IF this is something you do a lot, or just keep that job forever.

I'd be more worried about if me taking a day off puts someone else in the shit. If not, then do whatever you feel like. I'm guessing it's a job you're not too fond of, if you get fired, get a new one.

in the 12 years that I have worked, I have -never- called in for a bullshit reason. Ever, and I never intend to. it is irresponsible and lazy, in considerate and childish.

well, i guess a lot of you are perfect.

is it the most kosher thing to do? maybe not.
i'll own up to it though. and i'd rather take a day and get some rest than go to work, be a grump, and do my job poorly because i can't concentrate.
maybe it makes me lazy. don't really care. if you work hard, i think you deserve to be lazy and selfish once in a while.

OH DEAR FUCKING LORD. girls will seriously convince themselves of ANYTHING. WTFFFF. i hates them.

sorry, but as a boss myself, with 30 direct reports, if any of them called out within the first month of my employing them, i would think they were a fucking pussy; hardly proving themselves as "hard workers". consequently, if any of them bang out 3 times within a 60 day rolling period their ass is fired. and i have fired my fare share for this reason alone.

taking a day off for something other than a terrible illness doesn't mean you're not an adult nor a productive member of society.

as someone who has managed staff, i'd rather have someone call in than come in and hand in poor quality work that will just have to be redone. wtf is the point in that? and if that employee is hourly, why would i want to pay them to do a crappy job?

and if i had been fired from every job where i missed a day (for any reason: sick, vacay, etc.), i would have been fired on several occasions. then again, i'm riddled with disease and injury. so maybe i'm special.

i mean i've called out somewhat sick for retail jobs, but a) that's just retail and b) if i go in somewhat sick, odds are i'll get even more sick just being around people who may also be sick.

i've never called in tired though

calling in sick when you're actually sick is one thing. but calling in because you were too lazy to do your laundry is totally different.

and it still sucks when people call in, even in retail. the job needs to get done regardless, and if you're shorthanded everyone who did show up to work has to work a little harder..and not get paid any extra for it. retail isn't always simply standing at a register ringing up customers.

people who come to work sick actually make me angry. keep your germs to yourself, please. the rest of us don't want them. :( i can't even count how many times i've picked up bugs from my douchey co-workers or their sick children. >(

i wasn't going to get on my retail soapbox, but i'm glad you said something. it irks me when people act like service industry jobs aren't "real jobs."
