girls. seriously. i don't think you understand our plight completely.

guys vs. shorts alone is an epic battle that no one ever really wins. no guy in their right mind wears shorts as a fashionable option to anything else. if we wear them at all it is for fully functional reasons; (mostly "holy shit it is hot out it would be nice to not have complete pants on right now").

but you may not know this, that almost all dudes shorts options are those of the cargo short variety. you know, with side pockets on the legs and shit. notoriously "uncool" yet insanely functional (wallet, keys, change, cell phone, gum, bag of baby carrots whatever)

WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO THAT'S ANY BETTER?? IF CARGO SHORTS ARE OUT, WHAT'S IN?

cargo shorts are dumb unless you actually really need them aka are out in the wilds. basically jeff white meat can wear them and that's it. men don't carry that much crap, and what they should carry will easily fit in the four pockets afforded to you by wearing normal shorts

honestly, i don't wear shorts unless they are of the bike variety or i'm out doing camping shit

I rarely wear shorts and only own two pairs.

Workout clothes are workout clothes and should never enter into any conversation about fashion/style. Of course I have shitty mesh shorts (one of the two pairs) that I wear for working out or to bed on a hot night or whatever, but I am not going to wear that shit out of the house. That would be on par with wearing sweatpants out of the house.

Also, you can be active in clothes that don't make you look like a douchebag. I have old street clothes that gradually have been relegated to active work clothes. Personally I would rather suck it up and wear long pants when I am working especially when I am doing active hands on stuff because less exposed skin = less opportunity for minor injury. This is the same reason why I have never worn crocs as work shoes when working food service. Yes it is more comfortable. Except when you pour a carafe of hot coffee on your exposed feet.

If the situation is casual I think cut offs can be reasonable. But if you are taking your lady out to Sunday brunch and really really want to show off your gams, plz wear something that began life as shorts and is not khaki.
