Come her for a boyfriend or girlfriend? Like half of all the new users are like that, some of them use fake pictures just to attract more people. I report them (cause I'm a tattle-tail like that), but I personnally think that it's pathetic and stupid. If your going to be a member on this website the be a member, and not just a abuser (haha). So many think this is like a free dating site too...

And I know I'm only fourteen, and new here - but I have a real life girlfriend of 9 months, and follow the site rules.

True emo??????

Well, there are people who actually suffer from clinical depression (myself included) and I know for a fact they would not want to be classified as emo.

I also have clinical depression but I would love to be classified as emo. And I don't mean this jokingly, either. Or ironically, for that matter - especially if the lable emo actually refers to being a sweater-wearing, shy nerd. But it, for the most part, sadly now refers to a sort of club where they think they are cool. And I am not cool and not welcome in their "club". I honestly wish I could be labeled - even a lame stereotype would give me some sense of belonging. Anyone know what I mean?

I get what your saying, I just wouldn't want to be labeled as "emo".. forget all the stereotypes, it's just not my thing & I'd rather not be assimilated with it. I personally don't even like being labeled as punk or indie.. I mean, ALL these terms are so mainstream now & I don't see myself as fitting a mainstream stereotype and I don't want be assimilated with it. If I share similar views, music and general interests with someone then cool.. I don't give a damn what label you are, just be yourself & do what you please.

Also another problem with labels is that it means different things to different people and varies with location & from scene to scene. Like, it seems LA has more of a hardcore/street punk vibe, while here it's more of an early punk/punk roots vibe. A lot of things considered to be punk here is whats considered indie (and lame) by a lot of punk kids in LA. Which is why for the most part I leave labels to music and not people.. although yes, sometimes I do label people, simply because a lot of people DO fit mainstream stereotypes. and I'm sorry but emo is the IN thing today, it's for and appeals to a mainstream audience and a lot of emo kids (not saying all) seem to be into it because it's the "cool" thing to do.. and have little or no concept of the sub-cultural side of it. Most (again not all) are just not as "original" as they think &/or claim to be.
Hell I'm not original either.. I'm just not mainstream.

I just meant, it doesn't necessarily matter to me what label people have, it is belonging to something that is important. And I don't feel like I have that sort of feeling with a group in society. Yes, I have my friends, but even then, I will intentionally not hang out, etc., because I cannot accept some of their choices - and I mean that in a minor way, but also on a higher level. I agree with everything that you wrote, by the way. You made some excellent points that a lot of people miss - but likely the people that should learn a lesson or two cannot even begin to understand what it means to go against the mainstream.

holy shit, i remember when emo was used to describe bands like Dashboard Confessionals, Jimmy Eat world or Something corporate. Even some harder stuff like Thrice was considered "emo" for a bit, now shit like tokyo hotel has assumed the description and all these lil american harujuku wannabe tranvestite guys and scene clad poser girls have ruined it.

Emo, by a classical definition ie a.d. 2000, was music written with an emotional focus on the lyrics and mood of the song, to bring about the artists intended emotion. Tokyo Hotel however brings on a feeling of nausea. Teenagers with a true emo shirt bring about the urge to put a gun in my mouth.

just sayin

ps i love you

"In the mid-1980s, the term emo described a subgenre of hardcore punk which stemmed from the Washington, D.C. music scene. In later years, the term emocore, short for "emotional hardcore", was also used to describe the emotional performances of bands in the Washington, D.C. scene and some of the offshoot regional scenes such as Rites of Spring, Embrace, One Last Wish, Beefeater, Gray Matter, Fire Party, and later, Moss Icon"

Yes, you can - it is an adjective. For example: "Matt's favourite band is The Promise Ring, which may or not be considered emo music." It has also already been established into popular culture as a noun - but just because something is commonly used does not make it reasonable or true, but it is used nonetheless. It's going to take a while for this to go away. Nevertheless, you can still label someone as emo, even if that person is listens to hardcore punk - especially so. Some people, clearly like you, find this wrong? I find it funny. If you don't get the humor, that is too bad, because putting people into subcultural categories and subcategories is like a game. The game becomes even better when the target of your secret analysis denounces said labels but secretly considers himself the afformentioned label - nothing is better than irony. Some people don't have labels, they just are, but most people can be categorized if you know them well enough.

I'm so tired of classification and one-upping each other on how depressed we all are.

Get it through your fucking heads.

Emo is not a lifestyle that you can follow, everyone cries, and no one likes to read about how much you hate life.

Just kill yourselves already.

emo has changed from music to just..people who are retarded

more associated with slitting your wrists, being scene, hating your parents, hating the man

thats what is emo to me
and I find its only common with teenies, once you grow up and get some actual life experience you realize how stupid the entire concept is

everyone here that says they want to be labelled emo, just look at their ages

There is no such thing as an 'Emo.' The closest thing to 'emo' is scene, plain and simple.

Emo, or Emotive Hardcore, is a music genre and nothing else.
If you're scene and just happen to have clinical depression and cut yourself, then I recommend a good psychiatrist, if you don't already have one. Turn off the shitty music, put down the scissors, dye your hair a normal color, and find a different way of living that doesn't waste the air with all your "BAWWWW I'M S0 3M0" ing. Perfect solution to a retarded problem. :]

A lesson in "emo" for you youngsters... Once upon a time in the early 90's there was an underground that was the answer to the newly popular "grunge" scene. Here are a couple of "emo" bands I personally enjoy and enjoyed (I graduated HS in 1994):

http://http://www.metrosea.com/blog/boys.jpg" class='IMG_hardcode'>

Boys Life was a KC band in the heart of the mid-ninties "emo" scene. Musically they fall somewhere between Christie Front Drive, Mineral, Fugazi, and The Promise Ring. The lead singer Brandon went on to form the amazing alt-country act Canyon...

If you have "emo" in your lexicon and do not know who the Kinsella brother are, then you need to be kicked in the pants.

HOLY CRAP-SHARDS I'M A RETARD.... we used typewriters still, sorry. Let me try this again so you can all see how fucking computer and new-fangled MOC'ed up I am. Some would say it's from all the drug use, but I personally admit it is because I'm just stupid.

I'm pretty sure that "emo" didn't just show up with hot topic. I mean look at The Cure or Tears for Fears because that shit is most definitely emo and I'm pretty sure that Robert Smith wasn't buying guyliner from hottopic.

the lable emo is soo stupid just like any other lable. i'm sorry but if some one goes around saying "i'm emo" they are probably just another conformist that needs to get a life. I hang around with differnt kinds of people wether they're scene emo prep wat ever! I'm a very happy person most of the time yet my style is wat ppl classify as emo. so... stick that in your sterotype.
