similar to the thread about afi, what are peoples opinions on underoath? new stuff vs. old stuff, etc, etc? personally i like them, both their old and new stuff even though they sound like two different bands entirely

i liked them in my "hey, this whole 'post-hardcore 2004-screamo' thing is kind of alright! let me straighten my hair and sweep it to the side." phase.

admittedly, "It's Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door" was a creative song for that genre,
and P.O.S. sampling it made it a littel cooler. :D

I really like underoath, I love the whole post-hardcore thing though. I could care less if they're Christian or not, there's a lot of really good Christian bands (and a lot of REALLY bad ones). underoath is probably one of the better bands you're likely to see on MTV or Fuse or whatever tv channels actually still have music on.

i like them.

and i still don't understand how where a person is christian or anything else effects the music. yeah, some of the lyrics in this case, but big deal. i don't care about the people in bands at all.

this reminds me of how people think that a tattoo's meaning can make it look better.
um, no, that doesn't make any sense, be rationale.

I liked Underoath at some point but I don't remember when. Probably when I was a sophomore in HS but I didn't care too much about them.

I WAS SO INTO THIS BAND IN 11TH GRADE.
"They're Only Chasing Safety" was a decent album. Everything else from them is pretty insufferable to me.

Only time I sang along to a song was
when my friend's band covered an Underoath song.

why does it matter if the band is christian?
they're singing about what the believe in and that's pretty cool
i don't listen to them, never will either. but it's not cool to bash a band because they infuse their beliefs.

if that's the case we might as well trash every crust or vegan or straightedge, etc etc band ever.

no we arent criticizing them because theyre christians, sir.
the fact is, theyre playing what diehard christians call "devil music". now explain this to me...

HOW DO YOU SPREAD THE WORD OF GOD/CHRIST THRU METALCORE??????????? its the most oxymoronic thing i've ever heard of

I think just in general, Metalcore is really bad.

But like I said earlier pre-2002 they weren't Metalcore. As for the religious shit... I really don't care. I don't even notice it in the music and the lyrics to the one song I still really listen to don't seem to have any religious references directly.

Really? I know a lot of Christians, and I've never heard them call UnderOath, or August Burns Red, or The Devil Wears Prada "devil music."

1. you used it, so it was directed at you
2. people hate metal mostly because it's a genre of music that's had constant negative publicity since it's inception. 95% of bands who were called satan worshipers used dark imagery to condone messages of peace and whatnot. almost all bands from the inception of metal renounced satanism.
3. did you just call underoath death metal? it seems like you have no musical knowledge but you claim to be a musical prodigy.
4. "death" in death metal denotes the heavier, faster style combined with dark imagery. 99% of metal lyrics are COMPLETELY retarded with nothing to do with anything besides wizards and warriors.
5. metal has always been about guitar and energy not about lyrics. so actually placing a message with a belief like christianity into death metal almost brings it above most other bands, simply because they're doing something they believe in instead of just headbanging and boozing -- no matter how shitty they actually are.

then again, i'm no metal guru so i could just be blowing smoke.

I do. Frequently. Minor Threat can suck a dick.

inb4 schojo gets angry

Burzum's work is primarily instrumental

I don't take issue with artists whose beliefs I disagree with, I take issue with them when I disagree with their beliefs and all of their songs are about said beliefs

It's best to just trash a band over poorly written lyrics and crappy sound. especially if the subject of said lyrics are something silly like religion, being emo, or them bitchez down at da club.

Like Minor Threat.

The fact that I disagree with 99% of what is said in their songs is just an added bonus.

i'd argue this if we were in one of the numerous hardcore music threads but since this is underoath i think it's better to just say

Minor Threat is better than Underoath.

I will not debate that, nor do I really care to get into a debate in the first place involving Minor Threat; I find them insufferable, everyone else seems to think they're some sort of Gods. There's no point in arguing since none of us are going to change our minds.

Exactly.

Plus I'm not really worried about upsetting/offending the taste of a bunch of brats/young people who listen to music that would be featured on the cover of Alt. Press and actually go to the Warped Tour "thinking it's cool."
