i tried it a few days ago...

it looks like it is an amazing game, but it's just so in depth that it gave me a headache. even some of the tutorials lost me.

I tried that... man, it was really awesome. But... wow. You could get lost in there.

I think it's funny that it's called EVE, because I used to play an old game called Escape Velocity, that was a 2D topdown that was friggin fantastic. EVE seems like that... on CRACK.

I tried it, and I just couldn't get into it. Not that bad, it's just very in depth and confusing.

the game has many layers, like an onion

a car and a job qualifies one for a dream life?

It seems like they're trying too hard to make the game seem more complex than it really is. Graphically, it is an isn't impressive. Some of the objects in space are impressive, but they "cheat" a lot in some pretty lame ways, e.g. the background for almost every space station is the same when you dock, etc.

Mostly, it seems like it's just not very user friendly.

Plus the 10 pt Helvetica nue or WTFE it is giving me a fucking migraine, and you can't make it any larger.

I'm interested, but not sold yet.

Escape Velocity 1 & 3 were my favorite games for Mac. I used to play with all the awesome little mods and whatnot.
Only problem with EV:NOVA was that sometimes storylines won't show up at all for so long, or if you decide to not do one of the story lines you may never get to play any of them on one profile.

^ SUCH valid complaints. Practically the only way to really experience the storyline without wasting massive amounts of time in EV: NOVA was by modding or res edit hacking a ship.

Solid game, though.

I'm playing around with the Gallente race in EVE. Made a couple friends already, and it seems like people are more interested in helping you out as a noob than in WoW. I'm 3 days in to a trial account and I have 3 ships.

It's pretty fun!

gallente are alright!...i'm not a fan of railguns though...when i was playing i played minmatar...i think the best ship that i had was a wolf...which i'm pretty sure was the minmatar inteceptor...i would really recommend that you get the tristan as soon as possible...

Before I decide to even look at EVE... how's the game play with the ships? I've always wondered how developers would make that work. . .

also can it play on a Mac?

it's all about setting up you're orbit distance and turning off and on differentmodules (afterburners, weapons, stasis webs, etc...)

It's all by autopilot and setting headings. The only way to manually move your ship is to double-click in adjacent space. Otherwise, you have to double click an object you want to move to, and click and lock target on an object you want to fire on. Cabbler's got it: instead of special attack hot keys, you have 'module' buttons to click on and off or set a hotkey to. It's MUCH more mouse-driven than WoW.

Oh, and I'm playing it on a 17" Macbook Pro.

Y'all slackers or something? I just played the entire game like seven times through.

My current "champ" is in that hugeass Polaran super-warship (full modded and nothing but beam weapons,) with like, six of the same super-warships as escorts.
I've currently dominated every Terran and Auroran planet. Now I'm stuck. I tried taking over one Polaran planet, and they tore me several new assholes, and then violently sodomized me in each of them sequentially.

once you get so far in the game you end up playing it as if it were spore (solar system hopping taking as many planets as you can until you die of boredom).

if the game had a higher learning curve i'd have probably gotten to that point with the super war ships.
