my parents spent $20k on their kitchen a few years ago. now they're doing everything else and the rest of the house is stripped to the studs with limited electrical, plumbing, and walls. I've found that I'm perfectly happy with a kick-ass kitchen, a couple outlets, and a flashlight. I'll probably miss it when I buy a place that has walls, comprehensive electricity, and a thoroughly average kitchen.

i was going to note that in your cooking vids your kitchen does look pretty baller. lucky.

on a different note: cannot participate in this thread as i haven't lived at home in over 5 years.
can say, though, that there would be no perks if i were to ever have to move back in with the parentals. i would gladly pay ridiculous sums of money on rent, utlis, and groceries to not EVER have to live with them again.

I don't pay rent because I do enough chores to pay $500 a month.
I buy my own food, clothes, etc.

The big perk for me, I do not have to pay utilities!

I would give my left nut to be able to move out. My mom is a constant nag about everything when ever i'm home which isnt often and my dad thinks everyone needs to be in bed by 930. i'll be doing stuff and he'll just wander through the house and turn off all the lights and other things like tv or fans in the room i happen to be in saying time for bed. then he'll leave and left i'm sitting in the dark.

I'm working 40+ hours at a temp job while I try to get a "real" job where I'm making a salary and actually using my degree...

But in the meantime I'm making butt loads of money in comparison to when I was in school...

So I think I'm finally going to be able to afford my first tattoo:

My ex called me the other day. I told her that I lost my house and that I'm living with my parents again.

been 13 years on my own and i haven't once considered moving back no matter how difficult it was or how many half eaten pizza slices i had to scavenge. when i visit home any more than 24 hours there and i start getting really anxious. and now that they are old my mom and my stepdad are on completely opposite but equally restrictive weird ass diets so all the food they have sucks. so it's not even worth visiting for a good meal anymore. i am a culinary wizard in my own right nowadays so w/eee

I love my mom, dad, and brother but would never move back (if I had to I would move in with friends/other family members first). My mom especially is a huge emotional drain, and she knows it. Multiple family members, her included, have made a point of telling me that I am so much better off and more successful now that I am not dealing with her constant dependence on me.

If it were just my dad it would be fine. The fact that my step-monster and step sister live there too makes the whole thing a no-go. I wouldn't even stay there for a night. In fact, I don't think I've even stepped foot in their house for a visit since I moved out. I am so glad to be independant of them at this point in my life. Even if I were to hit rock bottom, I have friends who would gladly support me before my parents would even offer.

i moved away from home when i was 17. actually, my parents left me in DC to go to school while they moved back to arizona. the only time i have lived at home since was during a transition phase of house hunting when my husband went to iraq and i went back to arizona. the two months that i was there it was nice not paying for anything but me and my mom butt heads after being around each other for longer than a few days. living away from my parents has given me a better relationship with my mother. too bad because me and my dad have always gotten along. my younger brother is the opposite of me, is 21, and has never lived away from home. lol.

Moved out when I started college and would not move back in again. I love my mom but my goal in life is to be able to take care of myself and that's not going to happen if I'm stuck living with my mother. I don't like being around her too much. She is a very nervous person and needs to constantly be in control of any situation. That makes ME nervous too and I had enough of that environment growing up. Plus I like my privacy and living with friends. My mom lives in Mississippi now and I have NO plans to ever lead me to have to live with her in BFE.

I lived with my aunt and uncle for about 6 months while I job/apartment hunted in NYC. Free everything plus an awesome house (flatscreen tvs, Wii, XBox 360, heated pool, hot tub, home gym, etc. etc. etc.) and none of the stress of living with my immediate family and I still wanted to move out asap. Having the freedom and control over my own comings and goings is worth not having air conditioning or HBO. That said, I have been visiting in NJ a lot to get financial advice/assistant from my other aunt (she lives next door), and it has been nice to have this brief intervals of OMG LET'S PLAY SMASH BROS BRAWL AND THEN GO SWIMMING.

i live at home, but don't have free anything actually. i pay for pretty much everything.
my mother is pretty cool to live with although having to tell someone where you are 24/7 gets old fast, and i'm sure i annoy her too.
also she's looked after kids her whole life. like over 40 years. so she's getting sad that she can't do everything for me. not that i would want that anymore!

I live in Fenton at the moment, but I worked at the Flint Local 432 for a number of years (it was practically my second home), it played a major role in making me the person who I am today and I think the logo in a lot of ways captures my ideas and thoughts on music and working class ideology.

Currently, I'm on the board of directors and hopefully will be able to do more in the future with it.

My family is pretty chill. We all get along, but, like every family, we step on each others toes sometimes. Still, I can deal with it since I get an endless supply of materials to make grilled cheese sandwiches. And not paying for cable is pretty sweet.
