I'm working also. Shift starts at 4 EST. Base pay of $56 an hour. I can't complain.

I'm not union, nor a scab. This was in my job description. I work for TV. TV doesn't take a holiday.

i'm just flipping you all shit. labor day is about workers' rights, and if you don't feel that yours have been infringed upon and your working today doesn't make it easier for your employer to screw your fellow workers, it's all good. just try to remember the people who gave their lives for 8-hour days and weekends.

I am not working and needed this day off.
But I would work today if I got paid half of that.

I can observe Labour Day another day in the future because instead of taking the full 2.5x pay I can take 1.5x and then have a paid day off later. I'll probably do that.

Back in the days of the Industrial Revolution, workers were expected to put in 12-hour days, seven days a week (yes, including kids). Already sounds awful, right? It gets worse. In Pullman, Illinois, a company town that employed and housed workers to build posh railway cars, times had gotten tough. In response, George Pullman cut jobs and wages. It was 1893. Thousands of workers walked off their jobs in protest, demanding higher salaries and lower rents. Other unions joined, refusing to work the Pullman cars, turning the small-town fracas into a national fury.

With mail cars backing up, and riots worrying train execs, President Grover Cleveland stepped in. He declared the strike illegal and sent 12,000 troops to break the strike. Cue brutal protests and bloodshed. The strike was broken, but so was the spirit of the workers. To reach out to the labor movement, Congress rushed the national holiday into law. The bad will resulted in Cleveland losing re-election. But the day off for hot dogs endures.

luckily, i get today off. but i get holiday pay...so, i'm being paid for a day of sitting on my ass at home.

I split a shitload of wood to help pay for a car.
Not really a job, just working on my day off.
It will be worth it in the end, when I get my fine ass pimp ride and all the MOC bitches be up in my backseat.
