from my friend Mike in Portland..

The Saturday Market on the waterfront is a must! It’s the coolest arts & crafts fair ever. Better yet, Voodoo Donuts is just around the corner :) Maybe we can meet up at like 2 – after your convention center festivities.

As far as Mexican Food is concerned for your Friday night outing, Portland Aqui is a must!

seriously some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever had.

I mentioned heading to portland this weekend at work today and immediately had 3 people interrupt everything to talk about how awesome powell's is.

other than driving there I'm pretty much making zero plans.

let it ride.

sorry my dear but LA is too far in my past and too large of an area for me to point you in the right direction. maybe throw the question out on craigslist or somethin.

is your train ride an overnight? my one long-distance train experience caught me woefully unprepared. 2.5 days on a train in shorts with only a bag of doritos, three cokes and a bottle of bourbon. it was cold and uncomfortable. this is to say, make sure you have layers you can change in and out of easily. and a pillow.

Yes my train is overnight. I am kind of excited, cause I sleep the best on trains...

Layers Check
pillow was debating now check
change of clothing for next day CHECK (i really cannot stand the idea of spending 30hrs in the same clothing on a train.)

All i have to do is finish packing my carry-on bag, pick a book to bring, and charge my laptop!

Holy shit i cannot wait to be out of LA... Seriously, this trip maybe the straw that breaks the camel's back...

ilu.

i was going through security in paris (june 2001) and threw a itty bitty pocket knife into the key/coin cup as i walked through the metal detector. the french woman guarding the skies said "oh no, no, you cant have this, put it away (handing it back to me so i could put it in my pocket...?)" then the guy from behind the x-ray machine pulls out my leatherman and croaks out "leatherman?" with a nice thick french accent. i say yes. he hands it back to me with my bag, sends me on my way....

yeah watch out for that 3/4" dull blade on my pocket knife....
