because you have to actually modify yourself for someone to like you.

I hate being a roommate.

My best friend is my roommate.
He's awesome, except he doesn't like Saves the Day or Lifetime.
He didn't like much hardcore either, but it grew on him.
He also buys me food and doesn't wake me up for bullshit reasons.
Once he was having sex (our dorm is really small, beds six feet or so apart) and he was nice enough to put on Twilight for me to watch.
Good dude, backed hard.

Well considering the roommate stand point, I have to.
And it's weird when that person is pretty much your BFFE!!1!

Relationships are all about compromises and sacrifices to make one another happy.

You might be modifying yourself, but they're probably doing the same.

My best friend and I are about as different as you can get...we united through common interests in drinking too much...became best friends through hating the same things and drinking to that...

Self-modification is what keeps everyone from being the asshole they are naturally inclined to be.

so from your BFF4eva!1!'s standpoint, you have to change to suit her standard? or should you both have to make "sacrifices" for peace love unity harmony and all that jazz

that's kinda how I made my friends, anyone who can't hang is out. had seven of us all in one house at one point. there were occasional kerfuffles but no major existential conflicts.

my best friends all live >1000 miles away
and they accept me for the asshole i am
things would probably be pretty sweet if we all lived together
we'd probably end up in jail
but one of em is a lawyer so like, it's cool

sorry to hear roommates are trouble
it's a universal problem.
seriously.

Thats why in college I won't room with one of my friends. I'll take the draw.
Too much togetherness leads to bitchiness leads to hate. And I'd like to keep my friends.

It's not a (best) friend if you need to mold yourself to fit their figure.
Who cares if people don't accept you, they have problems of their own.

We weren't friends before college, and since the beginning of school we've gotten really close and we're always together.
It's more just the sacrifice stuff that I have to make, because she just isn't comfortable with stuff that I do
which sucks, but what can I do..

& I think we need a MOC ladies house, Michelle and Shelby and any other takers.

i hated my first roommate in college. we were both considerate of each others space, but she was pretty much one of the most awful people i had ever met.

i switched roommates after the first semester. it was an awesome decision.

I don't have a roommate, but i only have one good friend i can count on. just one. he lives in a different city and he's a total wacko haha :) but sometimes i wish i had more people i trusted. most of my "friends" here should probably be called acquaintances... too much gossiping and talking dirt behind your back

i don't have "best" friends or "favourite" things.
life is too diverse to pick just one.

and you shouldn't feel pressured to act a certain way. i have diverse friends and love them for who they are as people!
(i love who you are as people!)

Having a best friend also requires trust on a deeper than regular level. which in then takes all sorts of other things like time, effort, money, energy.

Things I'd rather not waste on those who 75% of the time are after their own personal agenda that they didn't tell you about.
