did you suggest bringing your own food?

my mum was annoyed that i turned vegetarian again but that's because she cooks for me. i did tell her that other people seem to survive and cook for themselves, but she's a mother and that's what they do.

if someone in my family went vegetarian, and i was the cook, i'd take that as a challenge not a burden.

So lame. I always considered family dinners more about the company than the actual food.

PEOPLE COME AROUND, MY MEATHEAD STEPFATHER EVENTUALLY MADE A FULL ON VEGAN THANKSGIVING DINNER, AND HE IS THE LAST PERSON I COULD IMAGINE DOING SO.

That sucks. I'll make you some mango ginger tofu if that makes you feel better!

that's pretty lame.

I'll be honest and say that I don't really "get" vegetarian/veganism, but I respect it. It's your decision to do whatever you want, and I'm not going to make you feel unwelcome because of that. I often am the person cooking meals when my friends get together. We're pretty divided, and I've never had a problem making food that is vegetarian/vegan friendly.

SO THE ONLY REASON THE DIDNT INVITE YOU IS THE VEG THING?

WHATEVER, ITS CLEARLY THEIR LOSS. IF THEY AREN'T GOING TO BE RATIONAL ENOUGH TO RESPECT YOUR DECISIONS THEN I'M SURE THERE ARE FRIENDS HOUSES YOU CAN HAVE DINNER AT.

PEOPLE NEED TO FUCKING COME CORRECT.

That was my sentiment exactly. Everyone knows family get togethers are more about spending time together so it is really shitty they left you out. :(

for the vegans and vegetablarians in the pvd/boston area, this is a must-try.

My mom believes that vegetarians eat fish to.
So I get bitched at when I refuse to eat the fish.
Isn't it lovely?
frankly i'd rather not be invited to family dinner then deal with my family dinners, aha.

As a chef, I have a love hate relationship with vegetarianism. Its like taking away notes or colors from other artists. At the same time it can be a fun challenge to make meatless dishes or explore legumes as the main protein of a meal.

Cheer up, look at them for what they are, unimaginative pricks.

Nope, I had an incident at a Little Caesars once, I have to stay 100 feet from pizza places and I am not allowed to be in possession of dough

It's one thing to not agree with your beliefs but to shun you like that? Fuck that noise. Bring a live cow to their doorstep and tell 'em to dig the fuck in.
When I went veg my grandma freaked out at first but she settled into it after she realized i'm not budging on it whatsoever.
Now I eat a lot of Morningstar Farms products at dinner time.

my family was initially really opposed to my vegetarianism but over time they've come to appreciate it and have started cooking more and more vegetarian food on their own... my mom went pescatarian, and my dad will order something with tofu half the time when we go out.

thankfully i get out of thanksgiving dinner every year now to do a march with a regional american indian group

Perhaps bring a dish that is vegan to show not everything tastes better with bacon. Ok, everything tastes better with bacon, so to prove a lot of dishes are great without meat.

i'd say there have to be bigger issues than your dietary preferences
hell, i thought canadians were all nice n shit.

you should announce to them you've started to eat meat again
and if/when they invite you over and the food is served just eat the salad and bread
when they ask, "i thought you said you started eating meat again?!"
just say "i lied because i wanted to be INVITED to be with my FAMILY"

come down to MT for our thanksgiving
there'll be plenty of vegetarian and omnivourian food stuffs
and alcohol
