i have yet to actually completely read anything by jack. i figured on hitting On The Road first, it seemed sensible as a starting point--and then i learned that it was not the originally intended version and that this original version was going to be available. so, i decided to hold off. i thought it would be extremely cool to begin with kerouac the way kerouac had wanted it. you can get the original "scroll"--no breaks, one long paragraph, all names original, all content harder and true--in hardback on amazon or borders or wherever--probably the local library. it was published in 2007. so what attracts you to kerouac anyway? i'm interested in his work because it is historically important; it was a blast of new and it was one of the first books written after ww2 that really expressed the rootlessness of that generation upon their return.
